hellfire bevel/pinion in a savage?

Post by WceViper » Thu Aug 03, 2006 12:00 am

Has anyone put the 42T Bevel and 10T pinion gear in a savage? the stock savage is a 43/13. Looks like the hellfire gears would give the savage way more bottom end!

42/10 = 4.2 gear ratio
43/13 = 3.3 gear ratio

If anyone has tried this, please post your results.

It would fit but your adding an entire revolution!

It would be really low gearing. The Hellfire has it cause a center diff is geared too high by nature (and lack of gearing options) so they needed to add low end somewhere else in the drivetrain.

IMO too much work to get lower gearing. Clutch Bells go down to 13T, if you need lower than that you ain't racin' the truck!

3.36:1 stock ratio to a 4.20:1, hmmm...too bad I can't run 33's!! I am definitely going to look into this!! Good find dude!!

Sounds like it might be a good idea to put the Hellfire gearing in the rear diff so that the front wheels turn a little faster, i.e. giving the truck oversteer. What do y'all think?

You will burn out diffs constantly. Not advised. You want all tires rotating at the same speed when all 4 wheels are on the ground, otherwise you will constantly bind the diffs and start shreding gears.

I think I see your point. I was thinking of the concept used in touring cars, but I forgot that they have a center diff.

I run Hot Bodies Lightning Stadium gears in my Savage diffs which are 10t and 43 t and htey work great with the setup I am running. I also have a Lightning Stadium center diff so that is the reason I went with the gears for the diffs.

I am running 13/50 gearing with a center diff on my setup. In a Savage with a 2 or 3 speed you will notice lost top end.
