Hey I just picked up some Tech 5 wheels to replace a stripped set of Velocities. I also ordered some Savage X axles and 17mm hexes that I'm still waiting for.. in the mean time I mounted my old Big Joes to the Tech 5 and it looks like they are going to rub on the shocks when turning..
If I go with a set of XL axles on my 25RTR is that all I should need? they are a direct fit? I have some 17mm hexes and nuts on the way.. |

| I'm not exactly sure but I think the cup sizes are bigger on the xl. |

Yes, cup sizes are 11mm as opposed to 9mm (standard X dogbones). So unless you want to convert outdrives, axles, and dogbones I recommend the following:
Best thing to do is dismount the tire off the tech 5's and get some 1/2 offset Axial oversized
I experienced the EXACT same issue with my premounted big joes on tech 5's.
I set them in acetone and removed the tire from the rim, purchased some new rims and remounted. Haven't had any contact/rubbing issues since. |

I just got done removing them from the old Velocities lol... boiled for 10 minutes per side in water and they peeled right off.
anywho.. I do like the look of the tech5 but since the XL axles look like a PITA I think I read something here before about extending the axle with an associated part... I'll have to try and find the thread.. |

| A very cool mod that should allow give you the clearance you need. Maybe even with the tech 5's! |

| You can also use end point adjustment too. If your radio has it. |

| Somebody needs to make a hybrid dogbone with the two different size ball ends with stock X length. They would sell like hotcakes. One could use the stock differential and arms with the wider xl axles. That way it could be done until the rest of the drivetrain was swapped out. Matter of fact I would call FLM and ask them if they could make custom ones. If it worked out they may start making them. |
