Well as many of you agree, purple is no color to be on a Monster Truck! I've never cared for the purple theme on my Truck, so when my OS 30 came with a blue head on it, it was time for a color change!

Here is all the parts I wanted to turn blue! Next to the parts, you can see my 100 grit sandpaper I'll be using! In back of all that, you can see the blue Duplicolor Metalcast solution I will be using!

To start, I chucked up a 1" sanding drum on my Delta 10" Drill press. I set it to the highest RPM it will go, and started grinding off the purple anodizing! From here on, its all about getting rid of the purple, and the grey under the purple, until you get shiny silver!

As you can see here, after I get rid of all the purple, I run the piece across the 100 grit sandpaper a few times, to give it a uniform brushed look! After this, I take the parts to the washer, and give them a rinse, preparing them for Metalcast!

This is a half finish skid plate support, here you can clearly see the dull grey patches, that was under the purple! This method of removing the anodizing takes quite a wile, and its a lot of hard work, but it looks a lot better!

Here you can see the finished product! This piece is also ready to be washed, and then sealed with Metalcast!

Here you can see my ultra high-tech coat hanger, holding up the parts being sprayed! Try to keep it all even, and don't spray too much, only enough to coat it.. If you want the coating thicker, let it dry for a few hours, then come back with another coat!

\
Finally finished! After a full night, and most of the morning drying, I took the pieces off the hanger, and let them dry a little further on my desk before installation!

Here you can see the front of my Savage already assembled! Amazingly, none of the holes were too small because of the Metalcast, everything fit perfectly!

Here I added a few more little show pieces, to set the blue theme! I simply got some blue cone washers, and some Ofna throttle linkage kits, and that's all!

Ah, the finished product, ready to bash all that pretty blue off!

The only thing to watch, is make sure not to get much fuel around the Metalcast! Duplicolor says it will protect against gas, but that does not mean nitro too! HPISavageRC found out that it is susceptible to nitro, so put it in area's like I did, where fuel is unlikely to get!

Yeah, I'll have pics for you guys as soon as I get a set! I've got a few different versions of the new prototype extended Low-CG TVP's coming next week hopefully.. If they pass my inspection, I'll tell FLM to go full speed with production, and we can get them shipping asap!

Yeah, I did a test piece the other day with metalcast and then i splashed some Nitro on it and it gummed up, started to melt, and bubbled, and it became very soft, and ruined the finish.

Looks sweet Matt! I actually like the purple, but that blue goes great with the OS 30!

I used some Drano Crystals to de-anodize parts a while back. Drano is also called caustic Soda and Sodium Hydroxide. I must warn you, be VERY careful when working with it, as any spilled in your eyes or ingested will cause permanent damage. You can also use Easy Off oven cleaner, but it is only 3% sodium hydroxide while caustic soda is 96%. You do the math.

You could just use this method too.
http://www.trilordy.com/anodize.html

I've done this with several parts and it works great! A little steel wool afterward and the parts are shiny too!

Thats the best way you could refinish them. The anodized layer makes the part stronger and harder.

Remember everything cost money. Anodizing isnt a cheap process to have done.

Some people I guess are to "manly" for purple or some people like me aren't to fond of a purple truck. Or some may like blue better but didnt want a maxx so they make a blue savage.

Haha, I've always liked blue on my trucks, but I guess its just because I grew up in Missouri, home of Bigfoot 4x4. Mr. Green
