|
|
i decided i needed to do something about the lack of engine protection on my savage, i was also sick of buying new roll bars after seriously bending them out of shape with only minor impacts, here is what i have come up with:
its made from a material called twintex which is extremely strong and light, i friend of mine works at a company who make pats for racing cars from it, these include bumpers and body pannels for world rally cars, dash boards for the aston martin vanquish, various formula 1 parts plus much more, the cage is only in its early stages of development at the moment but i have already dropped my savage from above head height upside down onto a concrete floor numerous times and it has suffered no damage at all and the roll cage is still perfect (with only a few small scratches)
now its not very pretty and you wouldnt be able to fit a pick up body without cutting it but if it protects my engine i dont care (it also braces the rear shock tower) and best of all it only weighs 200g or 6.5 ounces |

I'd Just stick with the large body, that protects just fine

but it doesnt though, the crappy stock alloy roll bar just bends like a piece of tin foil, even with the body in place, plus with a station wagon type body fitted the engine over heats unless you make lots of holes in the body which greatly reduce its strength
and its a real PITA having to take the body off every time you wanna start the engine |

my opinion is...
I have large body, its strong, had a huge hoel in front windowscreen and my wasp will not go over 230f.. even on hot days.. 250..
plus, the body has same problem as ur cage regarding starting it, so if u make a hole in ur cage for glow plug ignitor, u can also make a hole in ur shell to do the same.
as for handle bar bending, i see u used the phrase "even with the shell on" which makes me belive u bent it first time with shell of, well.. once u bent it its never gonna be as strong. ive still got my original handle roll bar thing and ive gone through 4 gallons now i think.
Yes i admit your setup looks a lot stronger than what im talking about, im just saying i dont have a problem with my current setup. |

Hello to everyone who looks at this thread. Im the person responsible for making the material used on the roll bar. As you can see, it is made up of small individual parts which are just off cuts from my work place. This is only an early prototype but i am working on a one piece roll bar and a cage will shortly follow. As for strenght, you will not be able to match my product once complete. I guarantee that it will be stronger and lighter than any roll bar on the market. I will initially be making around 10 - 15 for testing purposes before full scale production begins. The one piece bar will look much better than the one in the photos (will be similar to standard hpi roll bar). Feel free to leave comments and alo, how much you would be willing to pay for such an item.
Here are some links to show the properties and uses of Twintex

you may look into making something similar to the roll cage I just bought from RC Solutions. I tried it out last weekend and it really took some big hits. I was looking for something that would protect the engine also and this design works great. Its super light and you still have access to the glow plug with out drilling holes. It also protects the fuel tank. I am sorry I dont have pictures but you can find some on their website.

If you guys want to work something out where I send you my roll cage as a template and give me a great deal on a prototype. I would be interested in that. that material you are using sounds really cool. I wouldnt mind having TVP's made out of that stuff. |

miles on 125 i would like to test it for you and give you my honest opinion on this product
like trink it says when you make it (almost) the same as the cage from rc solutions it will be tremendous but don't steal their product be carefull (if you know what i mean
i have busted my crankcase once and i have to say a rollcage of that material(in one piece) and a little bit sweeter then the original (sorry neilb) would get me intrested
i hope you don't going to make them to expensive but like i said
i would love to test this for you |

| we are just testing ideas at the moment, the first thing we will almost certainly produce will be a replacement for the stock handle/roll bar, but we will also be looking at making tvp's, skid plates, full cages, tank guards, ect ect. we will keep you all posted on progress and will most likely send out a couple of low cost proto types of each product for some rigourous testing by you guys, if you would be interested in testing stuff then post a reply here and me or miles will contact you by PM when the time for testing comes (we will probably be looking to cover cost of postage and materials when we send out test products) |

| I would apreciate if you kept me in mind for testing. My friend and I really like to put a beating on our Savages. The RC Solutions roll cage has already proven its worth to the both of us. I think your material would be perfect for this type of a cage. |
