Gday from Australia guys. I own a Savage 21 and I have just bought a Truckzilla conversion (I got it really cheap) and I can't wait to hook it all up. But enough about me, my neighbour just bought a Savage LE and he wants to put an OS 30VG in it but I have read about issues with the engine fitting. Does the engine fit straight in without modification or does he need to buy additional parts to make it fit? Some pics of my Truckzilla coming soon, cheers.

It is a direct drop-in, the roto version was designed for the Savage. I'll be waiting on pics BTW. Welcome to the forum!
The only thing he will need is aluminum clutch shoes and a 18T CB.
Nothing but bad reviews about the Truckzilla engine on this forum, just to let you know. The average .28 will smoke that engine, if you can get it to run. Good luck!

Thats bad news about the Zilla, I hope it works out ok as I got that kit over many others because of the price. Can I ask why my mate will need aluminium clutch shoes and what ones do you recommend? Also what is a CB? Sorry, this is my first nitro monster.

I just found out what a CB is, clutch bell right? Will this CB and aluminium clutch shoe set work ok?

As far as tuned pipe and headers go, will any Savage 25 pipe and header work?

Thanks for the help.

They will work fine, although I have that clutch kit and the springs broke kinda easy. The bigger engines will roast a carbon clutch pretty quick and the stock springs will engage the clutch too soon. Both of those links are pricey options. His 25LE should have a 18T CB included in the box. All Savages come with optional gearing.

Much cheaper and should work fine.
Also check out the sticky at the top of hop-ups forum " How I install clutch shoes."

I got an os30 (pullstart) with the hpi alum. clutch shoes, seems to be working great, plus the hpi shoes go right in without having to worry about shimming to get them line up.
Also using hpi Racing Clutch Bell, 17tooth with 49spur and hd 2speed

One old savage without an engine
One destroyed os 30vg engine (all it took was a grain of sand..)

Os vg 30 is a direct drop in the only thing I had to do was shim the inside of the clutch bell with a extra washer - to get proper Gear Mesh . Im using a Integy lightened Flywheel with 3 shoe aluminum clutch it , Seems to work good only got a chance to run 1 tank full so far ...

I ran the stock 25 shoes and fly wheel at first. Now I have an all mugen AL set up. I would run 47/18. With this sg and cb combo it will still be on the lid every time you go WOT. I also have the 3 speed with mine and its whicked fast.

I have the savage LE and anyway, i go bashing with a few guys one guy has a savvy 25 and he has upgraded it (4 gear diffs,3 peed, cam type servo saver, dual disc brakes ribbed pipe and an os 30) so it is pretty much a LE with a oq 30 and a better pipe. Well there is another guy who has a savvy 25 and it is stock except for a picco .26 and his rear diff was totally screwed. It was broken to bits inside and guess who won in the drag race before and after he broke it? the picco .26 .This guy had better acceleration and way more top speed when he had the diff in good condition and when it was ruined just something to take into consideration. BTW if u like the roto start like me and want a picco all u have to do is swap the hex bearing that grabs onto the one wya bearing onto the back of the picco and put the roto start backlate on and it fits and works properly. I will be getting either a picco .28 ar an sts .28 when i get the money (im only 14 and just recovering from spenign $1100 aussie dollars on my sav.)

Hey guys, I fired the engine up last night for the first time and ran a whole tank of 25% fuel through it at idle. It seemed to start pretty easily and didn't stall once it got going, man did it blow a lot of smoke though. It sounded very mean and was *censored* loud. I will put another tank of fuel in it tonight and drive it around slowly to wear the motor in. I did notice the motor was far too hot to touch during the first tank, is this normal?

Sounds too hot, best way to be sure is temp gun. Keep us updated, I hope you prove us wrong about that engine!
