  S-25 Engine Backplate Update
Posted on Tue Oct 07, 2003 4:38 pm by oarie
Savage-Central Bulletins

HPI has had reports of some problems with the backplate of the S-25 engine vibrating loose, which can cause the engine to not run properly and possibly damage the engine. Upon inspecting some of the engines, it looks like the torque setting for the screws that hold on the backplate were not tight enough from the manufacturer.

To correct the problem you can either follow the instructions below, or send us the engine and we will update it for you. See the "Contact HPI" section at http://www.hpiracing.com for information on where and how to send in the engine.

Here are the instructions on how to secure the backplate screws:

Reinstall engine in reverse order of the dissassembly process, set gear mesh so that there is a small amount of play between the clutchbell and spur gear. This is a relatively easy update, the entire process should take less than 30 minutes.

Good to see this is being handled just as it should be. Hats off to HPI!

Just a note, the problem also goes for 21BB engines.

If you bought a new Savage 25 defiantly check this. I didn't and now I am sending my motor into HPI for servicing. It is real easy to check, I just didn't know about it.

If the backplate does come loose the pin in the motor can come loose in your motor.

Just incase you are looking at a different engine, this also happens to the ofna 25 and the hot bodies 26. I know my 26 fell apart and got mangled during break in. If only i had read this first!!!!

Is it a good idea to take the backplate right off and use some form of sealant? Or is that overkill. If so, what do you recomend for sealing?
