| So I broke down the savy this weekend for winter cleanin and modifications....and for some reason I included my FLM TVP's along with my plastic parts in the dishwasher for cleaning......I remember asking myself if they would be OK to wash...then thought "Theyre stainless steel, they should be fine". DOH! So now I got dull FLM TVP's. Sometimes I amaze myself with my stupidity....another post reminded me of some of my recent brainfarts. |

Actually they are not stainless steel, they are 6061 alluminium.
They just need polished, You can buy a bench polisher, & shine them right up. A dremel would work but it would take forever. Polishing them isnt hard with the right tool, but it can be time consuming. (something like Braso will improve them but polishing would look like chrome) |

| If they are aluminum as said above, get a package of cheap washcloths from wal-mart, and a can of Mothers polish. It's pretty easy, and works great. I polished a set of tvps with them 6 years ago, and they are still like a mirror,I just looked at them the other day. I don't run them, I polished them thinking of building a show truck, but I just can't have a savage sitting just to look at. |

@Xtreme....I knew they were aluminum, but that made it all the more ridiculous that I thought to myself "stainless steel" :)
Luckily they didnt get hot enough to warp...the shine is of course not necessary for the savy to run as it always has, but you never know how much youll miss ituntil its gone..
Thanks for the advice...I didnt know shining would be so easy and effective. I figured the polish was gone, but Ill definately give it a try. Thanks again peeps! |

if you want it powder coated, you need to send it out to a shop that offer that service since powedercoating involves specialized equipments like powder coating spray guns, electrostatic chargers and ovens.
from where i live, a couple of shops offer this service, they usually charge about $ 0.11 per square inch |

| But if you do make sure you clean all the screw holes and what not, powder coating gunks all that up. |

| you'd still have to polish the tvps if anodizing them. Anodizing shows every imperfection through the color. without polishing prior to anodizing, you can also get a dull color finish. it's easier to home anodize then powder coating, though. powder coating is similar to enameling in that you spray on a powder (not liquid paint) and then you bake it in furnace ovens gradually. Awesome product though.. heavier than ano and not easy to do at home. |

there are powder coaters and there are excellent powder coaters who would put screws in any threaded hole and blank off any other holes you need
otherwise it takes a lot of patient thread tapping and scraping to clear them out
they usually have good dip stripping and bead blasting facilities too
raw brushed or blasted alloy is cool and they can clear coat that too so it stays looking the same
i get mountainbike frames done all the time from a really good company that is very good at what they do (in new zealand sorry)
they have some cool finishes too like hammerite and they can put metal flake in the mix too so many options
look for a firm where its all they do is powdercoat and related stuff rather than an industrial shop that does a bit of it |
