Hi everyone, I just got a Flux HP last week. Firstly i'd like to say IT'S AWESOME! The problem I'm having is that the the wheels keep coming off. I was very lucky the first time because the left front wheel came off during a backflip and the pin/hub didn't come off. The rim hex is a little rounded though. After that incident I made sure i tightened the wheels before every bashing session.
I went out to test the Flux on a football field today and I got about 5m before the right rear wheel came off. I wasn't so lucky this time because the pin and hub fell off. It was a miracle that I managed to find the hub and the locknut. There's was no way I was going to find the pin but luckily HPI included spares. When i refitted the wheels I made sure the locknuts were REALLY tight!. 3 passes and one backflip later the right rear comes off again! Another pin lost and this time I couldn't find the locknut Sad. I swear I tightened the nuts. Any tighter and the threads will strip! Are you supposed to locktite the locknuts!?

What conversion can I do so that I don't lose the pin and hub if the wheel comes off? I like the traxxas design with the screw-in pin.

Also, which rims do you guys recommend? The stock ones seem soft and strip easily. Anyone using aluminium rims? I also like the splined hex hubs on some Traxxas trucks.

Locktite the wheel on.  I've done that and it worked fine.

Ok.I'll try that. First, I'll need new rims and wheelnuts.
It's funny how the right hand wheel came off and not the left!?

a lot of times when the hexs start to strip, that will spin off the wheel nuts.

I went to a 23mm hex for the flux

they are a lot stronger

Why are brands still doing hex. Just go nuts with an X shape or something thats never gonna strip.

That's what I thought but I read in another post that if the nuts are on tight, the hex's shouldn't strip.
I'm thinking of modifying the TRaxxas splined hex to fit the bigger flux axles if that's possible.

The Integy 17mm hex looks like it'll fit the flux. Has anyone tried?

I've been considering modifying e revo hubs. My e revo BL wheels never have problems, but I'm constantly battling stripped hexes and wheels falling off on my Flux -Even after using loctite. The e revo still uses 17mm hex, but the way that is set up is far superior. I am going to purchase a set and try it out, it will just take a little bit of grinding.

Hi,

Most of time, red loctite and tight really hard is enough

2 important things:

1) The wheels hex is made to be a weak point. The hex is the same thing as a breaker in an electrical box.
The flux has an extreme torque.  If you apply too much load on the system, something MUST break. Note that the Slipper Clutch pad is the exact same thing, to protect the bigger parts...
2) Remember to NEVER apply power on the wheels when you land jumps. Most of people strip the Hex inside because they still pull power when landing a back flip. Whatever happens when your truck is in the air you need to release everything 1/2 sec before your truck hit the ground.

Hope I help

Stay far, far away from these.  I got a set because I wanted the offset and 17mm nuts vs. using the 8mm system the flux comes with.  After half a battery the integy nuts had come loose and when I went to retighten found that they had actually stripped themselves.

What I ended up doing was getting the XL axles for the offset and a set of Hot Racing clamp style machined aluminum hexes and have had zero issues.  I like the clamp because if the nut does go MIA then the hex will stay on and keep the pin in place.

Something else to keep in mind is the factory hexes are a soft white metal that as much as it is hard to believe will actually wear out and can cause the issue of stripping out the wheels.  This is another reason I went with machined hexes.

Just a warning, do not use the screws it comes with. ?They seem to be a very soft stainless and my first set I popped a head off one. ?Needless to say I have 3 spares now, just replace them with some dubro one's and you are good to go.
