I have seen several throttle mods.  I ordered the parts based on one list I saw. The list had needed parts and optional parts.  I ordered all the needed parts and a few of the optional.  When I go to the RC Basher how to, it says I need Golden Horizons aluminum throttle mix arm, #02604. I don't have that part so I'm looking for a how to that I don't need that.  Can I do this mod without that part? Is there another good how to other than the RC basher one?

the throttle mixers you don't need at all, the stockers work fine. There really is no how to, If you look at some of the members rides that have this already done it is pretty explanitory.
Here is a couple of pictures of mine, but my savage is mid tanked but set up will be similar in the stock location as well.

This is one way you can do it. Of course i have since changed the arm to a long copper colored single arm and the mid tank mod, so my throttle servo is now next to my engine like shown in Trey7s post, but this was my first throttle mod and it worked good:

yeah, MrSnuggles free throttle mod is much simpler and works just as well. Actually i have the ofna mod on one of my savages and then i got another savage after learning about the free mod and immediately performed the mod on this new savage, the savage with the free mod stops better believe it or not. No money needed and not a bunch of tiny springs and such, just get the ole dremel out, works like a charm.

The mixer is optional, but does take some slop out from using the stock plastic.

Hmmmmm..... i wonder as well, it is the most clever throttle/brake mod anyone could have come up with. Sometimes the answer to a problem is so simple that it is waaaayyy overthought. I mean look at all the stuff you have to add to do the ofna mod, and the free mod is so simple you don't have to add anything, just take something away. Why on earth didn't HPI see this solution.

lol me smart

they not so lmao

it would all have made sense if they were selling some kind of throttle mod themselves but they are not

so why dont they fix this simple problem?????

and the ofna mod also robs power from the brakes but not as severe as the original hpi setup

my mod gives the brakes all the servo has to offer

with the twin red disk brakes people even have to make the spring pretty loose to keep the truck from doing front flips when the brakes are being applied

one guy i know of even went *censored* *censored* *censored* i broke the *censored* front drive as it was braking too powerful

Did you have to drill out the hole bigger on the servo arm so the hex bolt would fit through? Mine doesn't seem to fit.  I don't want to drill if there's another way.

Yes, you will likely need to drill the hole on the servo arm out to accommodate the bigger bolt.

that is fixed by lowering the tension on the brake spring

thats all there is to it

if you do the mod and dont lower the tension on the spring you are likely to do a front flip the first time

but lowering the tension on the spring is all there is to it

the servo will also use less power with lower resistance so your batteries will last a little bit longer

thats also a plus

you know MrSnuggles, i just don't think anyone is listening right now. THE FREE MOD IS THE WAY TO GO. drop the drill and pick up the dremel.  Another thing about the ofna mod is that you absolutely have to make sure everything is lock tite-ed, i lost so many little bolts it is insane. A lot of movement on those parts, they wiggle loose. Believe me, when you start losing springs, grub screws and little stuff you WILL curse your truck. LOL!!

Not to mention all the PITA adjusting that comes along with the ofna mod.-

lol it seems too many people have too much money to spend on whatever just to buy something

but the people who have tried both ways know what im talking about

that the best things are often for free

I have never used loctite on this.

Why all the hate on the ofna mod?  It's a $12 mod.. an afterthought, and miniscule in the grand savage scheme.

That's great that Snuggles found a free way to do it, but yes some DO like to spend money to look good.  Again, $12.

As far as performance it's inane to argue about the mods doing much when it boils down to getting a better servo for brake performance.

no hate on the ofna mod as it has for the longest time been the savior for most people to get some brakes without going for a new servo

just that with new times come new things

thats all  Very Happy

I just personally like the free mod better, don't get me wrong, this is coming from somebody with both types. I have one on each truck. The free mod is just a whole lot less to mess with, not a lot of cluster and small parts, and honestly does seem to work better, i have seen absolutely no need to change the servo at all with this mod. The only reason you would want to change that servo is to get a faster one, but my stock one seems plenty fast. And yes if you dont loosen the spring or have fully adjustable radio system, your truck will launch itsself into front flips with the free mod, a little more so than the ofna mod, but sometimes that is fun!!!!!  It really is a killer mod, these are just my opinions, not trying to sell anybody anything, besides its free. LOL!!! Can't sell something thats free can you. Now i don't even know what the *censored* I am talking about!

I guess it just boils down to personal preference, just like most mods.
