Its almost identical to the Tsais Pro custom side pipe. I don't know if it will be any better than the polished pipe on the XSS, but it will sure look nice. |

the HPI pipes were built to make asmuch noise as possible to impress the newb's.... I swear to god the designer was after noise, not power..... I would be looking at the THS pipe if i had a choise ( I beleive the THS is normal) ..... see too many pipes made for the Savage were not designed to make optimal power and RPM they are rather engineered to make noise and impress the impressionable.... If its louder it must be faster mentality...
Run any of the buggy pipes like a 086, 053, JP3, MSR 1005 and you'll see huge gains in performance... unfortunately these buggy pipes wont fit on A Savage... so I am not quite sure which is the best Savage tuned pipe right now, as all the current pipes have a trend towards having huge open stingers...which make huge noise, but also cause the motor to run lean on top end....the HPI ribbed and polished starve a motor on top end, and IMHO are one of the worst pipes ever made.. |

The ribbed pipe is not even a tuned pipe, more like a can style muffler. This does nothing for performance anywhere in the rpm.
Agreed |

I think you need to design your own pipe lol - my ribbed pipe is decent on my axial but im gonna try my fioroni and my GS racing and see the improvement |

| All we need is a normal tuned pipe converted to run on a Savage.... it seems all these Savage aftermarket companies design their pipes to be loud and nothing more.... Just a simple JP3 style pipe would likely outperform every pipe ever released for the Savage ever..... |

It takes a little elbow grease to get the coupler over the flange on most high end pipes and the exhaust pickup may not be in the optimum position but it is possible. You can also plug the existing nipple and retap a new nipple where ever you want. This is a 0702 pipe with a stock header, JP3 is not too bad as well (great pipe) the nipple is close to the tvp's is all.

| Yes but the gaskets would break down very fast due to the extreme heat of the 0702, the coupler took care of that problem and makes for quick pipe changes, no springs. It's just an option to make things easyer. |

I wonder if you got some early or bad gaskets. The ones in my 0702 held up great. They didn't even get slightly damaged by the heat. I actually have sold my STS and pipe on, and the new owner is very happy with it too.
As a side point, my 0702 didn't run hot at all. I could happily touch it without too much pain, and cover the stinger with my finger. It makes me wonder if they changed the design at all, or if it was just your crazy modded motors that were giving it the heat.
Those reasons were why I was so happy with that pipe. My current tsais pipe was a pita to mount in comparison and it still doesn't actually fit properly (I suspect the combination of X roll bar and thicker TVPs are the cause). Although the gaskets seem to be holding fine. No leaks to speak of. |

You plug up the existing one with JB weld or a similar metal epoxy, and drill a hole for a new pressure fitting instead:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0095p?FVSEARCH=pressure+fitting
I don't know if tapping the hole would be required. Then you could seal it up with a bit more JB weld around the base of the fitting.
The reason for doing this is because the pressure fitting for buggy & truggy pipes is on the wrong side. |

| do you cut off the old nipple or just plug it? have you done this? I'm conserned withdrilling a hole in a new pipe, and cant the jb weld fail? |
