| I don't think I can answer the clutch question. But, I think I can help you with the gear mesh. I assume you are talking about the spur to the clutchbell. I had the same problem, and I decided to ask around, and then do it, and see how I can explain my way. Here goes... I take the engine, and mount it to the engine mount plates, now put all four bolts to that chassis plate kind of snug, but not too tight that you can not move the engine. The key here is to get the engine tight enough so that once you get your proper gear mesh, you can tighten the bolts without the engine shifting. now move the engine clutchbell towards the spur gear to where you think it feels about right. Now take the engine and pull it back, or push it as far foreward as possible, which ever way gets the clutchbell more on the spur gear. This will insure that the mesh is good and straight. Now, for the actual mesh. Take the engine while holding it back or frontward, and tap it towards the spur or away which ever is needed. once you think it is not too tight (too tight is when the gear does not spin too freely) or too loose (too loose is when you hold the clutchbell so it can not move, and there is a lot of play when you move the spur back and forth) you want a tiny bit of play in the spur (thickness of paper back and forth). Once this is achieved, take a thin strip of paper, and feed it between the spur and clutchbell. If it goes through and makes a constant crinkle, you have just meshed your gears properly! Now go have some FUN. |

that was pretty dead on about the mesh... it's a 'feel' thing. A tip for tightening those engine screws... just leave the front of the truck on the table/bench and hold the rear off the table with one hand and stick the hex wrench up through the holes and tighten hand tight. Then once you have it stationary you can flip it and torque it properly.
as for a radio... if you have the $$$ get the JR XS3... it kicks azz...
you will never be sitting on the sidelines with that bad boy... i don't. |
