| It took 8 tanks, but my truck is finally running right. Starts right up, idle is good, pulls hard, good top speed. Man, what a pain this was. |

I am glad somebody had some luck. I am only on the 5th or 6th tank, so maybe there is hope. It seems like I just can't get it tuned right. I thought I had it one day then the next it just wouldn't stay running so I reset everything and haven't gotten it right since.
How fast does cold weather kill fuel? It has started to get cold here (low 30's F) and my fuel has been in the garage. I have done the dual tank mod, the backplate and carb seal, throttle linkage mod).
Starting to get frustrated.

| fuel doesn't get bad for awhile as long as you keep that little cap in the bottl e when your not using it. Air is not nitros friend or heat. That's a bit weird that you sealed the engine and it won't hold the tune. maybe you didn't seal it good enough or the sealant blew out. I need to seal mine because I was getting 320'+ with the body on in the break-in neddle settings!! Change your plug and see what happens. |

I think I am going to try the OS8 plug. I think it is sealed good. I was very careful there and let it sit for 2 days before I tried to fire it up.

I think the OS8 plug would work good for you. It looks like it is working for me and I have run my truck in really cold weather.
Also, you will notice that after 6 tanks, it would start running great. Patience, glenn, patience
I also think that the cold would screw you one way or another. Mine, I always find hard to start but when it warms up, the truck just flies! I think my usual problem is that the LSN is too rich so when the engine and fuel is cold, it keeps on loading up in idle and just dies. But once it has warmed up, it idles forever. |

Chiefpig,
This last time I was having trouble firing it up to warm it up. I decided to try the hairdryer trick with a heat gun that I have for airplane covering. Started on the first pull after pre-heat. Made a huge difference and is probably much easier on the motor.

That's a 12V DC heat gun? I know I can't use a hair dryer cause I'm out on the field
I usually just lean out the LSN a bit or increase the carb idle opening. I'm going to find out next time I try to run the truck if it starts or not using the settings from last weekend. |

Nope, it was in my garage and it is a 120V heat gun (AC).

| LOL! I don't like running my Savage on my driveway. It is just way too noisy even for me and I'm sure my neighbors would agree. I think I have only run 1 tank on my driveway/alley out of 1/2 gallon of fuel. |

All my neighbors have regular jobs (suckers ), so I pretty much have the run of the street during the day.

I think it just took several tanks for the engine to finally break all the way in. Today was the first time it started right away, ran good all day, and even held a steady idle without loading up too much. Cold has never hurt my fuel, but warm did. In the cold weather I use a medium range plug. Believe it or not, a friend lent me a Duratrax silver plug, and it runs great. Actually did some heavy duty bashing at work today (lunch hour), really didn't land too well on a few jumps. Only scratched the body a little. My friend's truck is wiped out. I have a Savage, guess what he drives?
Well, mostly works on but sometimes drives. |
