Ok, as my name says, I have yet to buy a savage. I'm still waiting to get the balance for an engine (for a car) I have sold. In the mean time, I'd like to start buying all the materials I'll need to get going properly when I buy my savage. I'm not looking for hop-ups such as pipes air filters etc. What I'd like is a list of items that are needed to get going right out of the box. In my searches/lurking here is a partial list of what I've come up with:
- 20% Nitro (which brand)?
- glow plugs (which ones)?
- glow plug wrench
- temp gun (couldn't find the radio shack one)?
- 5 Cell 1100 Mah battery for in the truck (is this necessary?)
- After run oil
- Nitro cleaner
- 7.2vBattery and charger for rotostart
Or should I scrap this all and get a starter kit? If so which one? Also what kind of batteries are needed for the Radio itself?
Sorry for all the questions, I just want to be prepared for the first time I break open the box and get ready for the breakin period.
Links and pictures would be highly welcomed.
Thanks,
Koko |

Welcome to the forum!
For your fuel and glow plug question, check out this forum - http://www.savage-central.com/forum9.html lots of information here. I use Wildcat 20% however I'm going to switch after I finish off my gallon as I am going though glow plugs like crazy. For the plugs I am using OS A3's and 8's.
The 5cell battery pack is not necessary - however HIGHLY suggested! If you get the RTR, your truck will come with a 4cell AA battery holder to use in its place (not sure about the SS). You will need to supply your own batteries. The radio transmitter uses 8 AA batteries (That's 12 AA batteries for the receiver and transmitter for those keeping track at home ).
Save your money and skip the nitro cleaner and go to your local hardware store and get yourself some denatured alcohol. MUCH cheaper, and it does just as good of a job - if not better.

Trinity Platinum 20% fuel
McCoy Mc-8 glow plugs
Tower has a new duratrax temp guage out 24.99 made by duratrax
5 cell battery pack not necessary but it's recommended because it's rechargable, and only costs $19 + shipping from e-bay
after run oil OR marvel mystery oil works too
You'll also want a fuel bottle and a glow plug ignitor.
That should get you going.... |
