Just had to rant a bit! I'm trying to break in my Savage 25 and for a few hours of trying to start the motor for the first time in cold weather and rain  .............I came to the conclusion my igniter sux ! I checked it every time with several different plugs they all glowed bright orange .......well at least for a few seconds........then decided to check plugs one more time and wala, found out something interesting ..........my igniter would fade away after a few secounds! "A" cell runs out of juice too fast ! So hopefully when the wife gets back with new igniter "D" cell this rig will fire all the way up not spit and sputter n almost fire!

Moron me! :p Yes the igniter was crap! The new one works better! Also helped when the motor blew out the obstruction from the pipe when it fired finally! WOW! Yes obstruction! A rubber cap or plug of some sorts was inside the tip of my pipe I guess as I did not see this!

No need to be snitty about it, Landshark. Most D-cell ignitors do not use rechargeable batteries and rechargeable D cells are not very common.
The type of glow ignitor bordn34 was referring to uses a Sub-C cell and includes its own charger. |

| You never said that it was a glow ignitor with a rechargeable battery. You mentioned an "A" battery and a "D" battery and like I already stated, rechargeable D cells aren't very common while those with Sub-C cells are. I have not seen a glow ignitor that uses an "A" cell. I've seen ones that use "AA" cells, though. |

Yeah, I'm still using my stock ignitor that came with my 25rtr. It seems to work well, but am almost ready to make the move to a rechargeable one, only because its appealing to see how much of a charge one has.
The only thing holding me back is the concern that the charge wouldn't hold very long and that I'd just end up carrying around extra batteries anyway. Dunno... I've never had one. |

| Tweedle, it can depend on the mAH rating of the battery, if it's fully charged, and how well it's been maintained. I had a few extra 1500s lying around after splitting up a stick pack to make my others 7-cell packs when I was playing around with electric RCs, so I just use those as spares. If you put a 3000mAH cell in the ignitor, naturally it'll last longer. I had made a special discharger for single cells to keep my glow ignitor batteries cycled and in good shape before my baby bro bought a charger that cycles, so now I have him do the cells. If they ever wear out, then I'll spring for a few 3000aAH cells. It's good to have a spare, just in case =) |

I'm going to have to get one sometime I see. As it is, I'm carrying 3 or 4 extra non-rechargeable cells around anyway. Might as well make it just a spare rechargeable one.
I assume they are all very similar, and it's the battery that makes the difference....
Time to use the search feature...

| Most of the rechargeable ones use Sub-C cells, which is good because you can put even better batteries in them. The one I have came with a Sanyo 1300mAH battery, but I have two 1500 Sanyo cells that I use instead. I had those left over from splitting up a stick pack to make 7-cell packs out of my other Sanyo stick packs when I was still using my electric RCs. Someone around here uses a 3000mAH cell in his. I considered buying a few cells like that, but my two 1500s are working fine and I keep them in good shape (I cycle them about every 4-5 recharge times). I think 3000mAH is the highest you can put into a glow ignitor due to the cell size of the newer 3300 and 3600 cells. |
