Right, here we go again, as I didnt sell the sav, ive gone off on one and made another cage
Ive made this from a crazy material sample that my supplier gave me, I cannot remember the name of it as my supplier was showing me its durability at the time, you basically can bend it over on its self and its shatterproof, Its also VERY light, it weighs at least half that of the Delrin cage, which is nice.
Its a rough mockup at the moment for testing, using the supplied material.
Ive kept with a similar design as before (why re-invent the wheel). Its extremley easy to work with aswell, it took me 2 hrs to knock this up.
Initial prototype piccys
Im about to take it out for a test run.
Oh and whilst I was taking the piccys I took a little one showing the anti shock setup on my mid tank.

If its mounting holds up, the plastic will never break. I have tested the materials in every way. Th only thing that will ruin it is if the tepature outside reaches 500 degrees. Thats the only thing that will damage this material. So it is truely 100% indestructable..!!!
If you didnt have a mid tank you wouldnt be able to access the gas tank. Thats where I am at with my design. |

| One tip I can give you that may help is to use threaded rod all the way through the cross braces. That makes for a solid one peice unit. Then the screws can not get ripped out. Just something I found to be a needed with my design. |

What material is it? It looks like it might be clear UHMW Rod.
Thanks. |

Ill be able to get the material spec later today (as im at work).
The rear setup is pretty sturdy (now I attaced the lower brace), it prooved to be 100% solid with the other cage, so im hoping no hiccups with this one. Only issues is that the hinge pins are going to come out unless I design a retainer for them (which is next job).
I tried to destroy it all weekend, its holding up fine, I has a certain amount of flex, say 20%, which seems to soak up all the solid impacts.
Although when I went to my LHS to get a new hub carrier I came away with a Mini Monster (which im now converting into a Mini Savage) |

UPDATE: The cage is holding up great, no damage what so ever!
The material im using is Polypropylene.
Material Spec http://www.boedeker.com/polyp_p.htm
At the moment it fits the stock savage no problems, im going to make it fit a stock savage with the the LST shock mounting kit (by Kudos) fitted next.
PS im hoping to get vid footage of the cage in action in a week or so. |
